Williamstown – Aldo’s vineyard
Latitude: 34⁰40’38”S Longitude: 138⁰53’29”E
Vineyard
Fruit for this wine was sourced from Aldo’s Vineyard, a single vineyard in Williamstown at the southern end of Barossa Valley near the boundary of the Adelaide Hills. At an altitude of 220m and planted on deep silty grey loam overlaying yellow clay, a large portion of this vineyard dates back to plantings in 1930.
Winemaking
Fruit was selected in the vineyard and hand-harvested as two separate parcels. At the winery, the first parcel was 100% whole-bunch fermented, with fruit direct tipped into open-top fermenters. The second parcel was 50% whole-bunch and 50% destemmed into the open-top fermenter before direct tipping. After three weeks on skins the two parcels were pressed together before overnight settling and racking to seasoned French oak. The wine was matured for 8 months in oak before blending and bottling in December 2021.
155 cases produced.
Nose – Black peppercorn, raspberries, sage and strawberry liqueur.
Palate – Balance of savoury and fruit sweetness, stalky tannins provide structure and drive.
