2023 Barossa Valley Grenache

Vineyard

Fruit for this wine was sourced from the Neldner Vineyard, situated on the western ridge near the settlement of Gomersal. At an altitude of 260m, this vineyard was planted in 1970 on a red clay loam overlaying limestone, and a north-south row orientation.

Winemaking

Fruit from these old gnarly vines was hand harvested and delivered to the winery in the cool of the morning. 50% was destemmed into the bottom of an open top fermenter, the remaining 50% direct tipped on top as whole bunches. After 7 days on skins the wine was pressed and left to finish fermentation in stainless. Once complete, the wine was racked off gross lees to seasoned oak for maturation. After a total of 8 months in oak the wine was blended and bottled in December 2023.

Nose – Strawberry, truffle, cumin, earth and black olive.

Palate – Soft silky palate, bright fruit, savoury influence, complex.
